Virginia Beach hosts the East Coast Surfing Championships as well as the North American Sand Soccer Championship each year and is home to two universities, Virginia Wesleyan University and Regent University. 

Another point of interest, especially for history buffs, is Cape Henry, the site of the first landing of the English colonists who then went on to settle in Jamestown in April of 1607.
